I read Kaylee's Keeper first and loved it. (Kinky and dirty - can't wait to read more from the Castle series!) Then a short spanking story called "Kindred" she wrote and now this. I have read many erotic novels with my favorite's being Violet Blue 's edited erotic anthologies and Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. Maren Smith's writing appeals to me because it is not only a sexy read, but she writes likeable and believable characters within an interesting plot. I am also a lover of spanking stories and this seems to be a theme throughout her books. In this book I love the story so much. One of my favorite parts is when Jamie dresses in a French Maid costume unsure if whether Travis is into role playing or not. I won't spoil it, but it will make you want to buy one if you don't already have one in your closet. ( I do and my husband loved it when I "serviced" him!) Sorry this book has me worked up! At the end of the book is a teaser from Kaylee's Keeper. I will definitely buy more reads from this author - she stands out from what seems like an explosion of female erotic authors in recent years.Product details

A modern day Cinderella. Maren Smith is one of the best authors in this genre. Her books are well written romances with interesting plot lines. The Next Ex is no exception, although for some reason this book didn't reach out and grab me the way her books normally do. As usual, the male character is the most well developed and interesting. The book is largely told from Travis's point of view, and he has a dry sarcastic sense of humor that lightens the tone of this book overall.
I am a big Maren Smith fan, with an exception to a few. This one is by far the funniest. The hero has non stop funny witty thoughts and comebacks, with a hard determination and screams dominance. It is a spanking romance yes, and very few understand a relationship like that. This one was beautifully written though. I danced around it for quite a while before I bought it and didn't waste a penny.
What man would find his wife in a building he owned where she was the janitor? After he corners her into an agreement they dance circles around each other and their attraction to each other for a while hiding their feelings for the other the entire time. Yes she makes a few mistakes that he refuses to over look and she pays the consequences, but she is never by any means abused by any stretch of the imagination. There are many of that would love to have someone looking out for them, and pay attention to what they do that would consider her very lucky indeed. A truly wonderful book.
Jamie and Travis together are hot,loving,and humorous - fun to read about. Travis is practical,authoritarian, and all business until he decides Jamie is the one to get what he wants. Then all bets are off, because she is ultimately all he wants- to discipline,protect,love, and those love spanks are hot.Finally, you want to see what raising newly and surprisingly acquired baby Megan would be like for take control Man called Mountain.Life must have been awesome. More just like this,please.
This is one of the best spanking romance novels I've read in a long time. There's plenty of humor, witty conversation, chemistry, spanking and a very hero/heroine. It was a completely satisfying read with out overly harsh or unrealistic spanking scenes. Some books they seem forced or just completely outside any normal accuracy they are laughable or sometimes the scenes are so harsh it's off putting. In this book they flow perfectly and where definitely steamy/hot.
I am only half way through this book and I'm finding it hilarious - it actually has me laughing out loud. The repartee between Travis and Jamie is priceless. I would thoroughly recommend this book. (However if you're not into spanking, perhaps not. But given that, I think anyone averse to spanking would still enjoy this story.) It is one of love blossoming between a very rich man and a woman who has been left destitute by a previous marriage. I love all your books Maren but this one takes the cake!
Millionaire business man marries destitute but hard working employee simply to earn more money for his company. When nothing about him indicates a great craving for money. Not the most plausible plot but then plot is not always the first requirement in a DD book. Nor is it worth $4.95 for the length.
That said, I enjoyed the growth of love and trust in Ms. Miracle and she clearly needed a strong man. But ... will he allow her to remain strong too? She seems to be drifting into the trophy wife category. Perhaps there will be a sequel. Possibly to be called "The First for Keeps." Bippity, Boppity, Boo is taken, after all.

I too am not of the spanking relationship type. After reading Mountain Man and now the Next Ex I may be inclined to give it a try.
You need to look beyond the sexual preferences though when you read this story. The witty dialogue between Jamie and Travis is totally believable and will have you giggling throughout. Travis's charm is very well written even without those romantic lines of poetry. You will "oooh and ahhh" over his male protectivness with Jamie's daughter Megan.
Every incident is cleverly tucked into a careful web of words, emotions and actions that draw you into the relationship magically develped by Ms. Smith.
I always love a good knight in shining armor story & that is really what this one is. I would have liked to have read a bit more of their story. (try to make longer ones in the future please.......)...Especially Japan. Jamie could have knocked Marsha on her ass.....haha
